In high school, brainy Renita Thatcher had a massive crush on Brett O’Connor, the captain of the football team. Although, the geeky nerd and the popular jock couldn’t have been more different, they had formed an unlikely friendship. But unfortunately for Renita, Brett had never seen her as potential girlfriend material. Brett had been more interested in vacuous cheerleaders and blonde bimbos than smart and intelligent girls like her, and Renita had been crushed when Brett had rejected her advances and refused to take her to the school dance.
It’s been a long time since Renita’s walked through the corridors of her old high school, but she has never been able to forget Brett – nor has she ever forgiven him for crushing her teenage dreams. Now a successful career woman working at Summerside bank, Renita couldn’t be happier. She is doing a job she loves, can pop in on her family and friends whenever she wants and has a menagerie of animals to look after. Her love life might not be much to write home about, but she’s perfectly happy without a man. With her parents’ marriage falling apart and her professional commitments, Renita has got enough on her plate. But little does she realize that things are about to get a whole lot more complicated – because Brett O’Connor is back in town!
As one of Australia’s premier football players, Brett O’Connor’s prowess on the pitch had only been matched by his passion for women. His tumultuous love life had made him a regular in the tabloids, and having never lost his passion for leggy blondes whose IQ was no bigger than their shoe size, Brett has now been saddled with an avaricious ex-wife who wants to bankrupt him.
Brett wants to put his old life behind him and start afresh in Summerside with his teenage daughter. Now retired from competitive sport, Brett is not about to rest on his laurels. He’s bought the town’s dingy old gym and plans to turn it into an upmarket sports facility. But in order to reach his objective, he needs to borrow plenty of money from the bank – which is where he comes face to face with his old high school friend, Renita.
Things have changed significantly since their high school days, and although Renita’s first instinct is to make him pay for humiliating her, the hard-working loan officer soon finds herself falling under Brett’s spell…
Will it be second time lucky for Renita and Brett? Or will they let the past continue to hover over them?
In His Good Hands is another fabulous story from Joan Kilby’s perceptive and immensely talented pen. A compulsively readable contemporary romance that kept me up well past my bedtime, In His Good Hands features sympathetic characters, sparkling humour, witty banter, well-rounded secondary characters, a wonderfully rendered setting and plenty of drama, hope and emotion to keep romance readers spellbound!
A highly compelling romance about second chances and new beginnings, In His Good Hands is one for your keeper shelves!
